Amazon Enters Podcasting
The worlds largest Internet retailer Friday joined a medium that has been more associated with grass-roots amateurs than commercial giants: podcasting.
Amazon.com debuted its Amazon Podcasts network — featuring original interviews and content in four areas.
- Amazon Wire is a biweekly feature of short interviews with an author, someone associated with a film or DVD, and a musician.
- Its BookClips lets listeners hear seven- to 10-minute excerpts from new audiobooks.
- Music You Should Hear is a service that exposes listeners to tracks from new albums.
- A monthly podcast called Significant Seven offers Amazon.com book editors’ seven picks for best upcoming titles, along with a discount of 40 percent off the books, for a limited time.
We are not just about selling products. We’re about providing an experience for customers and helping provide information that will inform their entertainment and experience, said Amazon spokesman Sean Sundwall. With podcasting, it’s more entertaining, it’s a richer medium.
